Question about Lightroom Catalogs for External Drives
"I have been importing old folders of pictures, and using the Standard preview... but now my Catalog Previews.lrdata database is about 40 GB. Should I be doing something differently? Can I put this catalog on an external hard drive while the normal catalog is on my computer hard drive?
Many photographers keep the Lightroom catalog on the external drive, for that drive. It is a good practice to use back up software, to back up the whole drive including the lightroom catalog.
I also use an external drive to backup just my lightroom catalogs. Sometimes it is easier to find out which drive I need to connect to the computer, because I have multiple drives.

Introduction to Digital Shoebox
Thank you all for taking the time out of your weekend to attend Silver Eye Center of Photography presenting Sorting and Organizing your Digital Images.
As always it was a pleasure to to meet you all and to share some of my experience. One of the great benefits to teaching, is the teacher learning and with out a doubt I did a little of that on Saturday as well. I look forward to keeping in touch with all of you.
The good news, Sylvia Ehler and I, are working on a Lightroom Workshop for early June, I will keep you posted.
My intent is to keep this blog updated from time to time, we covered a lot in our workshop and I will revisit those topics in the coming day. In the meantime, I wanted to get this link to you so that you have a destination.
Here is another link you may find interesting. Introductions to Keywords and Lightroom by Helen Bradley.
Remember the sub theme from Saturday, " Search Criteria."

Today's Quote...
“Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.”
A. A. Milne quotes (English Humorist, creator of Winnie-the-Pooh, 1882-1956)
